Dodgers minors: Jackson Ferris, James Outman, Justin Wrobleski, Austin Beck (2024)

A recap of Wednesday in the Dodgers minor leagues.

Player of the day

Left-hander Jackson Ferris struck out a career-high 10 batters for Great Lakes on Tuesday night, allowing one run in five innings.

It was the third consecutive start for Ferris lasting at least five innings while giving up no more than two runs. Tuesday lowered his ERA to 4.94 on the season, to go along with 59 strikeouts (27.7-percent strikeout rate) and 24 walks in 47⅓ innings.

That the career-high game for Ferris came on the anniversary of the game at Wrigley Field shown on television in ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ was a mere coincidence.

Triple-A Oklahoma City

In a completion of Tuesday’s suspended game, Oklahoma City lost by a run to the Round Rock Express (Rangers).

The game was halted after the top of the first, with Round Rock leading 1-0. James Outman got that run back with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning, his third in the last five games in Triple-A. Outman’s home run was measured 106.4 mph off the bat, his hardest-hit ball to date since getting optioned to Triple-A.

Landon Knack took the mound to open the second inning and allowed three runs, but then followed with four scoreless innings after that.

Andre Lipcius homered in a two-run third inning to pull OKC within a run, but there was no more scoring in the game.

Double-A Tulsa

Austin Beck homered twice and drove in seven in the Drillers’ rout of the Amarillo Sod Poodles (D-backs). Beck had four hits on the night, including three-run home runs in the first and sixth innings, plus an RBI double in the fifth.

Tulsa managed to pile up 12 runs despite scoring in only three separate innings.

Justin Wrobleski didn’t need nearly that much support, tossing six scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a walk. The left-hander has allowed three runs in 23⅓ innings over his last four starts.

High-A Great Lakes

Behind the 10 strikeouts of Ferris and a six-run third inning, Great Lakes was well on their way to a romp over the Cedar Rapids Kernels (Twins).

Nick Biddison hit a two-run home run in that six-run third inning, and later singled and stole a base. Thayron Liranzo and Noah Miller each also had two hits, including a home run, with Liranzo’s a three-run shot.

That six-run third also featured three of the Loons’ five stolen bases in the game, including a double steal by Jake Gelof taking second and Chris Newell swiping home.

Low-A Rancho Cucamonga

After snapping a six-game losing streak Tuesday, the Quakes only scored once Wednesday in a blowout loss to the Visalia Rawhide (D-backs).

Rancho Cucamonga’s lone run came in the fifth inning, when Kendall George singled and then stole his 17th base in ... games this season. Samuel Muñoz singled him home, one of two hits in the game for the outfielder.

Second baseman Sean McLain also had two hits, and stole a base.

Transactions

Double-A: Outfielder Damon Keith was activated from the 60-day injured list on the first day he was eligible, after playing four rehab games in the Arizona Complex League. Outfielder Lolo Sanchez was released after hitting .194/.291/.233 with a 55 wRC+.

High-A: Outfielder Dylan Campbell was placed on the injured list. There was an injury delay on Sunday after Campbell stole third base in the top of the ninth inning, and he was replaced in the outfield for the bottom of the frame. Campbell did not play Tuesday.
